We are going to switch things up this week since everyone is suuuper busy with other projects, school, and work. This week, I'll take some of your time and remind you how this entire game came to be. I think most of you know this story by now, but I want to remind everyone why this project is so near and dear to us. Also, I want to remind everyone that we won a thing, heh.
So, the year was 2019 and we were pretty much fresh off the boat with Punnu Games. We were very focused on creating games and gamification around our two core values, sustainability and equality, and we just happened to notice a hackathon approaching in the near future. The theme of the hackathon was perfect for us since it was all about sustainability and all that jazz! So we signed up for the event and we were on our way!
Now, during the event, we got amazing support from the organizers and other teams as well. Remind you, this was during the glorious days when we were allowed to see other people! Remember that? We started thinking about the theme and how we as a game company can get a message across and what would be the funniest way to do it. Well, I mean the obvious answer is a game, but how can we combine a game with such a serious and often honestly boring topic? Well, you all know what the game is now, but let me tell you, some of the stuff we were planning on putting in the game, well, it made no kinda sense! We wanted to have literal turf wars inside the game. And I mean literally. We planned that a neighborhood could gang up and just start taking over other areas by building some energy totems. So we basically planned a Tinder or something for gangs and that explains why that feature didn't make the cut.
But we created a semi-polished concept and we happened to win the hackathon! The biggest perk from that was, we got so many amazing connections and thanks to that we feel like we will be able to bring more awareness to the things that are important to us!
