Welcome to Fantastic Weekly, a blog for our development process on our upcoming game: FANTASTIC ENERGY.

Game Design

We decided to dive deeper into the design of the terminal and carbon footprint. The main question is “How do we make it as simple as possible so that the player won’t have to spend too much time filling in the information?” We have now made the first prototype for the necessary questions and the next steps are to implement the new visual design, polish the terminal scene and place the entire carbon footprint tool there. :) This is how it looks like at the moment:

Another thing that is strongly related to the carbon footprint is how do we encourage honesty so the tool becomes useful to the player and discourages cheating?

We are bringing in QUESTS! Yessss!

The monsters that the player has defeated join the player in their Base of Operations and will provide quests to the player. These quests contain a series of knowledge and after completing the tasks within the quest (usually taking 2-3 days with regular information dropped for the player) it can be completed by answering a quiz. Based on the correct answers, the player is rewarded accordingly. These quests will act as a knowledge sharing platform for the players and hopefully encourage some learning.

Also, the quests will have different difficulty and rarity levels based on the quest-giving monster and the rewards are scaled accordingly upon completion.

Business

Eeva

Not much going on this week I suppose, which is nice! It’s good to have a quiet week every once in a while, right? Have a lovely weekend you lot!

Gigi What she said lmao

Code

Tipi

This week I’ve been building the algorithm for the carbon footprint and also the prototype presented in the game design section.

There were (and are) some bugs that still require my attention and I am fixing those as fast as I can! One funny bug… did you know that you can get infinite amounts of coins and fantastic energy if you stay lingering in the monster fight after you’ve won..?

Not to worry. You won’t do anything with this information at this point and after you do, it will be fixed. Mwhahahahahaha!

Graphics

Noora

I’ve had a super busy week with school so I wasn’t able to do much for Fantastic Energy. However, we did make some progress with the game design and I made some UI plans for the terminal (which will probably be completely redesigned, we’ll see). Here are some pictures of the terminal UIs.

Joviaal

This week I tried to balance school and this project. But at least I got something done. I spoke with Noora this week, and she suggests that the rooms can have two materials instead of one. So, this week I mostly split old textures into two ones. This change makes it possible for the players to have more freedom to change how the rooms look and give much more variety.

The texture splitting was a robotic and straightforward task to do which only takes a little time, no need for thinking process, but luckily I can listen to remote lectures at the same time from zoom XD

Heini

School started this week so I haven’t had as much time with the lovable monsters as I would’ve liked, but I’ve still worked on a couple of monsters, giving them more animations, more movement, more life!

Thanks for reading and cya next week!

With love,
